Industrial brine preparation
Compare final brine concentration and filter residue at equal active CaCl₂. Record whether the weighed sample was hydrated.
Road deicing material assessment
At the intended air temperature and pavement conditions, compare distribution and ice melting for different particle sizes.
Purchase specifications and incoming inspection
Include the intended grade or current specification in the enquiry. Use the table to compare selection criteria and inspection conditions. The specification agreed by both parties defines the contractual limits. OxyChem DOWFLAKE Xtra · Third-party calcium chloride flake grade and assay ↗
| Property | Unit | Published or agreed specification | Test conditions and checks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Calcium chloride assay | Mass fraction | OxyChem DOWFLAKE Xtra flakes, third-party example: 83–87%. | The range applies only to the cited third-party grade. Agree separate limits for the proposed supply. |
| Water-insoluble matter | Mass fraction | Specify for the brine filtration requirement. | Test at equal concentration and record the filter medium and blank. |
| Particle size and form | mm | Specify the actual flakes, granules or other form offered. | Record fines and caking after transport. Crystal shape alone does not identify the hydrate. |
When approving a sample, record the grade, methods, limits and specification revision. On receipt, match the packing lot number to the lot-specific COA and record the measured values and release decision.
Chemical identity
| Database entry | Molecular or composition formula | Molar mass |
|---|---|---|
| Calcium Chloride | CaCl2 | 110.98 g/mol |
The values refer to the compound indicated. Confirm hydrate form, solution concentration and blend composition for the commercial grade.
From samples to commercial delivery
Packaging and receiving
Request separate quotations for flakes, granules and solution. For solids, confirm liner and net weight; for liquids, check concentration and unloading facilities.
Storage and handling
If lumps are found, check the seal and moisture exposure before retesting active content. Allow for whole-bag sampling.
Sample and order lead times
State the concentration or hydrate, initial net quantity, destination and unloading method. Confirm minimum order, pallet or truckload quantity, dispatch point and arrival date separately.
Questions from the plant
How can moisture-related caking and dosing drift be addressed?
Compare anhydrous-equivalent cost and select a particle size and liner suited to automatic feeding.
Can calcium chloride flakes be priced on a dihydrate basis by default?
Flakes describe shape. Request CaCl₂ mass fraction and moisture on the COA before comparing active cost.
Report a delivery or batch issue
Include the order number, lot number from the package, label photos and inspection records for the affected lot. When retesting, check Hydration state, Calcium chloride assay, Insoluble matter.
