Verifying historic material codes
Identify the existing grade from its label and COA. Consult the product details for that stereoisomer.
Substitution after confirming stereochemistry
Once the isomer is confirmed, hold acid equivalents and juice concentration constant. Compare tartness, clarity and dissolution.
| Form or grade | Suitability and verification |
|---|---|
| L form | Projects requiring the L form should verify specific rotation or chiral identity. |
| DL form | Treat the racemic form as a separate specification. Check source and end use. |
| Unspecified or other stereochemistry | Obtain structure and identification method from the supplier rather than inferring identity from a name or generic number. |
Purchase specifications and incoming inspection
Include the intended grade or current specification in the enquiry. Use the table to compare selection criteria and inspection conditions. The specification agreed by both parties defines the contractual limits. ENVO · Malic Acid: Stereoisomer Selection product information ↗
| Property | Unit | Published or agreed specification | Test conditions and checks |
|---|---|---|---|
| L and DL forms | Qualitative or proportion | Request stereochemical identification documents. | Request batch-specific chiral identification; a total assay alone cannot establish stereochemistry. |
| Principal component assay | % by mass | Request the grade specification and lot result | Identify the analyte, dry or as-received basis and method. Do not substitute a theoretical conversion for an incoming release result. |
| Composition and impurities | % by mass | Request the actual component distribution | List the principal components and methods used. Specify how unidentified peaks and impurities are reported. |
When approving a sample, record the grade, methods, limits and specification revision. On receipt, match the packing lot number to the lot-specific COA and record the measured values and release decision.
From samples to commercial delivery
Packaging and receiving
ENVO lists 25 kg bags. Confirm order-specific net weight, units per pallet and label revision.
Storage and handling
Keep samples, labels and reports separate until stereochemistry is established. Order L and DL forms separately.
Sample and order lead times
State food category, sales market, pilot quantity and required arrival date. Confirm MOQ, batch documents, availability and remaining shelf life separately for samples and commercial orders.
Questions from the plant
How should an old order without an isomer designation be identified?
Use the current label and COA to establish the specification, then consult the page for that configuration.
Which sample should we request if the original label only says malic acid?
Provide the current sample and label. Agree on the configuration before approving and recording each sample separately.
Report a delivery or batch issue
Include the order number, lot number from the package, label photos and inspection records for the affected lot. When retesting, check stereochemistry and origin, Chiral identification, acid assay.
Request documents for your application
TDS · Technical data sheet
For grade selection and sample approval, specify the grade and revision required.
SDS · Safety data sheet
Specify the country or region of use and the required language.
COA · Certificate of analysis
Request a sample COA during supplier review. For incoming inspection, provide the actual lot number.
