01 / Applications and trials

Plan a trial for your application

Lubrication in PVC processing

Compare torque, fusion rate and mold release. Inspect the finished surface for exudation.

Pigment masterbatch dispersion

Measure color strength, filter pressure rise and streaks. Check wax compatibility with the carrier resin.

02 / Quality and acceptance

Purchase specifications and incoming inspection

Use these properties to compare grades within the product family. Example figures refer to the cited grade or source. Confirm the offered specification, packaging and lead time in the quotation. Clariant Licocene PE 5301 · Polyethylene wax grade example ↗

Property Unit Published or agreed specification Test conditions and checks
Dropping or softening point °C Confirm against the offered grade and purchase specification Specify the method. Compare like thermal properties.
Melt viscosity mPa·s Clariant Licocene PE 5301 grade example: 200–500 mPa·s. 140 °C, DIN 53019. Applies only to the stated grade.
Acid value mg KOH/g Confirm against the offered grade and purchase specification Indicate whether the wax is oxidised. For non-oxidised products, interpret the result by grade.

When approving a sample, record the grade, methods, limits and specification revision. On receipt, match the packing lot number to the lot-specific COA and record the measured values and release decision.

03 / Packaging and delivery

From samples to commercial delivery

Packaging and receiving

Check particle size, bag material and softening conditions for powder, granules and flakes.

Storage and handling

After transport-related caking or size change, verify metering and dispersion against an original retained sample.

Sample and order lead times

State the finished part, machine trial quantity and routine order size. Match trial and commercial grades and agree MOQ, load unit, lead-time start and arrival.

04 / Troubleshooting

Questions from the plant

Why can waxes with similar dropping points produce different extrusion torque?

Compare melt viscosity, polarity and lubricant balance, then trial at the same screw conditions.

Can oxidised PE wax directly replace unmodified PE wax?

Check acid value, polarity and compatibility in the formulation first.

Report a delivery or batch issue

Include the order number, lot number from the package, label photos and inspection records for the affected lot. When retesting, check Dropping or softening point, Melt viscosity, Acid value.
