Polyolefin heat stabilization
After a fixed number of extrusion passes, compare color, melt flow change and retention after aging.
Long-term heat aging
After the specified exposure temperature and time, compare elongation and time to failure.
Purchase specifications and incoming inspection
Review these properties when selecting and inspecting incoming material. Example figures refer to the cited grade or source. Confirm the offered specification, packaging and lead time in the quotation. BASF Irganox 1010 · Hindered phenolic primary antioxidant example ↗
| Property | Unit | Published or agreed specification | Test conditions and checks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Principal component assay | % by mass | Confirm against the offered grade and purchase specification | Verify the identification and chromatographic methods. |
| Melting range | °C | Confirm against the offered grade and purchase specification | Check both the range and the method in the current grade specification. |
| Volatiles | % by mass | Confirm against the offered grade and purchase specification | Use the same test conditions and compare with the recorded storage conditions. |
When approving a sample, record the grade, methods, limits and specification revision. On receipt, match the packing lot number to the lot-specific COA and record the measured values and release decision.
From samples to commercial delivery
Packaging and receiving
Confirm granules or powder, net weight and contamination controls during opening.
Storage and handling
Retain raw, first-pass extrusion and reprocessed samples to separate the effects of heat history.
Sample and order lead times
State the finished part, machine trial quantity and routine order size. Match trial and commercial grades and agree MOQ, load unit, lead-time start and arrival.
Questions from the plant
Can the stabiliser grade alone predict service life?
Use the actual polymer, processing heat history and end-use ageing tests.
Do we still need to evaluate 1010 if the recipe contains 168?
They act by different mechanisms. Compare each individually and in combination.
Report a delivery or batch issue
Include the order number, lot number from the package, label photos and inspection records for the affected lot. When retesting, check Principal component assay, Melting range, Volatiles.
