Set up the comparison

Divide the delivered price by the actual iron mass fraction, using consistent mass units. Record colour, particle size and compatibility alongside the cost per unit of iron.

Measurements to record

Ferrous fumarate assay (%). Reported as C₄H₂FeO₄. Confirm the batch reporting basis for ferrous and total iron. Loss on drying (%). Check both total and ferrous iron. Inspect the seal and colour on receipt. Record the sample ID and method revision for repeat testing.

Interpreting the results

Compare particle size and carrier distribution in the intended blend. Unit iron cost alone cannot establish whether the alternative works in the recipe.
