Set up the comparison

Prepare equal-iron samples in actual site water and a control water. Record pH and observation times and compare changes on standing.

Measurements to record

Iron content (Mass fraction). Confirm DTPA as the ligand. Do not transfer the iron content of a liquid grade sold under the same brand. Form supplied (Solid or liquid). For liquids, report density and measurement temperature. For solids, verify solubility separately. Record the sample ID and method revision for repeat testing.

Interpreting the results

Check whether the trial covers the site’s calcium and competing metals. Assess iron remaining in solution in the actual nutrient mix before generalising the result.

What to record

  • Water source
  • pH
  • Iron concentration
  • Standing time
  • Observation
