Why can a two-component coating misbehave when ethyl acetate meets its main assay?
Main-component purity does not establish suitable water or free alcohol content. Open sampling and changes in ambient conditions can also affect the result.
Trace closed sampling through spray-panel cure
Record closed sampling and test times and report water and alcohols separately. Prepare panels with current and candidate solvents under the same environment. Assess resin compatibility, spray appearance and cure separately.
What if rapid surface drying causes dry spray?
Evaluate the entire solvent blend at the actual temperature and humidity. Inspect the spray fan and finished film. Coating dilution: At the target temperature and humidity, compare atomization, leveling and surface drying. Solventborne inks: Print on the same substrate. Record transfer, plate plugging and residue.
Checking Assay and Moisture
Assay (% by mass): Specify GC calibration and reporting basis. Moisture (mg/kg): Use Karl Fischer titration and state sampling conditions. Evaporation residue (mg/kg): State evaporation conditions and the quantification limit.
