Are AEO grades with the same designation interchangeable?

Alcohol chain and EO distribution influence cloud point. Storage temperature and test medium also influence appearance.

Retest appearance at the grade’s specified temperature

Record delivery temperature and subsequent conditioning. Retest under the grade’s specified conditions and compare cleaning and rinsing in actual water at the intended wash temperature before judging a newly opened drum.

Does cloudiness in winter mean the material fails?

Record temperature history and appearance after equilibration. Retest against the grade TDS. Wetting in textile pretreatment: Compare liquid uptake by the fabric over a set time and residue after rinsing. Liquid detergents: At equal active matter and water quality, compare grease removal, clarity and low-temperature stability.

Checking Average number of EO units and Cloud point

Average number of EO units (mol/mol): Verify the average value and carbon-chain distribution. Cloud point (°C): State aqueous solution concentration and any solvent or salt system used. Active matter (% by mass): Distinguish active matter from non-volatile content.

What to record

  • Alcohol chain and EO description
  • Arrival temperature
  • Equilibration time
  • Cloud-point conditions
  • Cleaning performance
