Trial design and interpretation
Hold formulation, mixing thermal history and test temperature constant. Record scorch time, time to the target state of cure and torque. Discharge temperature alone cannot separate accelerator lot effects from mixing variability.
Recording Initial melting point
Initial melting point (°C): ENVO published high grade ≥170, first grade ≥166, standard grade ≥162. Fix the grade before agreeing the initial melting point method. Cure characteristics: use the agreed method. State temperature and t90 criterion and monitor torque.
Why does scorch time vary at equal MBTS addition?
Check active content, dispersion and mixing temperature. Run each cure curve in the same base compound. Tire compound vulcanization: Fix sulfur and other accelerators. Compare scorch time, optimum cure time and torque development.
What to record
- Mixing thermal history
- Test temperature
- Scorch time
- Time to target cure
