Can the urea dose be carried over to ammonium sulfate?
Total nitrogen does not distinguish ammonium nitrogen, amide nitrogen or accompanying sulfur. Price per unit of nitrogen can conceal changes to the complete formula.
List nitrogen form and sulfur separately
Calculate both products for the same formulation batch and record nitrogen species and sulfur. Test dissolution, filtration and compatibility at the target stock concentration. Review impurities separately for by-product grades.
Can a by-product grade be accepted on nitrogen assay alone?
Confirm process origin, colour and controlled impurities. Include a separate filtration check. Nitrogen and sulfur supply: Account for ammoniacal nitrogen and sulfur separately in the full formulation. Assess the target crop and medium. Blended stock solutions: Check dissolution at actual concentration and minimum water temperature. Focus on compatibility with calcium-containing components.
Checking Ammoniacal nitrogen and Sulfur
Ammoniacal nitrogen (% by mass): Give separate values for total, nitrate, ammonium or amide nitrogen as applicable. Use a common as-received basis. Sulfur (% by mass): Identify S or SO₃, and water-soluble or total content, before calculating actual sulphur applied. Water-insoluble matter (% by mass): Agree water temperature, sample-to-water ratio, filter medium and the drying and weighing procedure. Test compatibility separately with site water.
