Set up the comparison
First establish acid or salt form and stereochemistry. Dissolve both samples at the same pH, temperature and mixing time and record when residue was observed.
Measurements to record
Free acid or salt identity (Qualitative). Use a reference standard appropriate to the actual material. An impurity profile for another nitrogen compound is not interchangeable. Configuration or optical purity (Identification or %). Specify the chiral method or optical rotation conditions. Report total chemical assay separately. Record the sample ID and method revision for repeat testing.
Interpreting the results
Keep the preparation method with the result. Different sample preparation conditions can make grades appear to behave differently.
What to record
- Identity
- pH
- Water temperature
- Mixing time
- Residue
