Why does fabric still repel water after passing the iodine test?

Iodine primarily tests residual starch. It does not identify every non-starch size or oil and wax finish. Keep starch and absorbency results separate.

Add an absorbency control to the iodine test

Sample several positions on one fabric roll and record wetting, temperature and residence time. Test iodine response and absorbency independently and use the original sizing recipe to identify other possible residues.

Why is desizing incomplete on the continuous line after a successful beaker trial?

Check fabric wetting, actual dwell and temperature. Retain samples from different positions. Cotton desizing: Use the same greige fabric lot. Check residual starch and absorbency before and after treatment. Continuous-line compatibility: At actual residence time and water quality, check how evenly residual size is removed.

Checking Enzyme activity and Operating conditions

Enzyme activity (Method units/g or method units/mL): Specify substrate, pH, temperature and the definition of the activity unit. Operating conditions (pH and °C): Check the effective operating window in the grade TDS. Residual size rating (Grade or %): Define the sampling location and test method.

What to record

  • Fabric position
  • Wetting at entry
  • Residence time
  • Iodine test
  • Absorption time
