Can reported enzyme activities be converted directly?
Activity at supply and stain removal after finished-product storage describe different stages. Activity units are directly comparable only with the same method and substrate.
Track activity in the raw material and formulation separately
Store a retained enzyme sample and a complete formulation prepared from the same lot. Measure residual activity at intervals, then test on the same protein-soiled fabric. Compare both curves to locate the loss.
Why does a retained formulation lose activity after a successful fresh trial?
Separate raw enzyme storage from storage in formulation. Test residual activity at the same temperature. Liquid laundry detergents: Using the same formulation, measure cleaning of protein-stained fabric initially and after storage. Laundry powders: Compare granule blend uniformity and low-temperature cleaning.
Checking Enzyme activity and Activity retention
Enzyme activity (Units/g by supplier method): State the substrate, pH, temperature and reaction time. Activity retention (%): Specify the formulation, storage temperature and sample retention interval. Stain removal on test fabric (Change in reflectance): Use protein-stained swatches from one batch and a blank control.
