Set up the comparison

Using the same powder base and mixer settings, take separate samples at several discharge positions. Keep the particle-size result with each assessment.

Measurements to record

Iron content (% by mass). Match the listed food ingredient entry and confirm hydration state and analytical method. Particle size distribution (µm or % sieve residue). State sieve opening and percentage passing. For fine or agglomerated material, specify dispersion and sieving procedures. Record the sample ID and method revision for repeat testing.

Interpreting the results

Compare phosphate identity, iron content and particle size separately. Retain separate identity documents and approved samples for ferric phosphate and any proposed alternative.

What to record

  • Particle-size range
  • Base material
  • Sampling position
  • Elemental iron
  • Blend uniformity
