Can vitamin E nutritional potency predict antioxidant performance?
The same commercial dose may deliver different total tocopherols, homolog profiles and carriers. Nutritional activity and oxidative stability of the oil require different measurements.
Fix the oil, light exposure and storage time
Use one base oil for the blank, existing product and candidate. Match storage conditions and compare the agreed oxidation indicator over time, with the actual tocopherol contribution recorded.
Why can grades at equal addition rates produce different odours?
Align active fraction and carrier oil, then compare the oil phase and oxygen exposure during processing and storage. Edible fat formulations: At identical packaging, light and temperature conditions, compare oxidation indicators over time. Storage of lipid-rich foods: Use the actual oil phase and processing heat history. Compare finished-product odor and oxidation.
Checking Total tocopherols and Homologue composition
Total tocopherols (% by mass): Confirm that results refer to the as-received product and identify the analytical method. Homologue composition (Relative % or % by mass): Distinguish α, β, γ and δ homologues and specify the denominator for each fraction and the total. Carrier and form (Composition statement): Check whether the product is oil-based, powdered or blended.
