Trial design and interpretation

At constant active content and temperature, prepare a salt concentration series and record viscosity and appearance at every point. If viscosity rises and then falls, compare the peak and stable range. A single reading reveals little about salt tolerance.

Recording Active matter

Active matter (% by mass): BASF Texapon N 70: third-party nominal value, approximately 70. Agree method and range for the actual grade. Convert low-active liquid grades to the same basis for comparison. Inorganic salts: use the agreed method. List sodium chloride and sulfate separately and state the reporting basis.

Why do two lots reach peak viscosity at different salt additions?

Check inherent salt, active concentration and EO distribution. Repeat a salt gradient using actual process water. Concentrated detergents: At equal active content, measure viscosity, clarity and temperature stability at several salt additions.

What to record

  • Active matter
  • Salt already present
  • Added salt series
  • Viscosity curve
