Set up the comparison

Sieve the approved and candidate xylitol under the same conditions and record both the coarse and fine fractions. Compare feeding and mouthfeel in the intended granule or tablet process.

Measurements to record

Other polyols (% by mass). Check separately from xylitol assay on a dry basis. Particle size distribution (µm or % sieve residue). State sieve opening and percentage passing. For fine or agglomerated material, specify dispersion and sieving procedures. Record the sample ID and method revision for repeat testing.

Interpreting the results

If the press or mouthfeel changes, review size distribution, blend uniformity and compaction first, then check other polyols and moisture.

What to record

  • Sieve aperture
  • Fraction retained
  • Fraction passing
  • Feed behaviour
  • Blind sensory result
