Feed-grade ferrous sulfate

Application grade · CAS 7782-63-0 (heptahydrate example)

For ferrous sulfate, separate ferrous iron, total iron and hydration state. Color can flag unusual material but does not establish available iron content.

01 / Applications and trials

Plan a trial for your application

Iron-source premixes

Compare color and distribution at equal ferrous iron input. Keep retained samples of the blend.

Storage stability

Compare ferrous iron, total iron and moisture in sealed and simulated open-bag samples.

02 / Quality and acceptance

Purchase specifications and incoming inspection

Review these properties for the intended application grade. Example figures refer to the cited grade or source. Confirm the offered specification, packaging and lead time in the quotation. UK Food Standards Agency · Ferrous sulfate monohydrate feed entry ↗

Property Unit Published or agreed specification Test conditions and checks
Ferrous iron % by mass Confirm for the proposed grade and project Specify Fe²⁺, total Fe or water-soluble Fe. Sample and test using the corresponding method.
Total iron % by mass Confirm for the proposed grade and project Specify Fe²⁺, total Fe or water-soluble Fe. Sample and test using the corresponding method.
Hydration state Identity and moisture (%) Confirm for the proposed grade and project Specify the precise hydrate and analytical basis. Apply limits for the relevant salt form only.

When approving a sample, record the grade, methods, limits and specification revision. On receipt, match the packing lot number to the lot-specific COA and record the measured values and release decision.

03 / Packaging and delivery

From samples to commercial delivery

Packaging and receiving

Check iron oxidation state, hydrate and inner-bag seal. Assign separate item codes to different forms.

Storage and handling

Keep an unopened control. Retest damp or discoloured lots using the agreed method.

Sample and order lead times

State premix or pelleting trial size, replenishment quantity and receiving warehouse. Confirm MOQ, preparation time and plant arrival separately for samples, pallets and split orders.

04 / Troubleshooting

Questions from the plant

How should a darker lot be assessed when total iron passes?

Measure ferrous fraction and review sampling, sealing and oxygen exposure before deciding on release.

Can a hydrate change affect feeding?

Convert on measured Fe²⁺ and add flow and moisture checks.

Report a delivery or batch issue

Include the order number, lot number from the package, label photos and inspection records for the affected lot. When retesting, check Ferrous iron, Total iron, Hydration state.
