Silage acidification trials
At equal raw material moisture and sealing conditions, compare acidification over time and preservation results.
Metering system compatibility
Calibrate the feed pump by measured acid content and density. Check wetted parts and unloading conditions.
Purchase specifications and incoming inspection
Review these properties for the intended application grade. Example figures refer to the cited grade or source. Confirm the offered specification, packaging and lead time in the quotation. EFSA · Assessment of formic acid as a technological feed additive ↗
| Property | Unit | Published or agreed specification | Test conditions and checks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Formic acid assay | % by mass or titratable equivalents | Confirm for the proposed grade and project | State the acid equivalent, whether total or free acid is measured, the as-received or dry basis, and the analytical endpoint. |
| Density | g/mL | Confirm for the proposed grade and project | State measurement temperature and use measured density to convert the metered volume to feed mass. |
| Metal impurities | mg/kg | Confirm for the proposed grade and project | For the intended use and market, list each element, method and quantification limit. Request results for the stated batch. |
When approving a sample, record the grade, methods, limits and specification revision. On receipt, match the packing lot number to the lot-specific COA and record the measured values and release decision.
From samples to commercial delivery
Packaging and receiving
Select liquid container, seal and unloading connection against the SDS of the offered grade and carrier requirements.
Storage and handling
Check labelled concentration and any leakage on arrival. Qualified receiving personnel should follow the SDS.
Sample and order lead times
State premix or pelleting trial size, replenishment quantity and receiving warehouse. Confirm MOQ, preparation time and plant arrival separately for samples, pallets and split orders.
Questions from the plant
Can buffered formic acid replace the neat liquid at equal weight?
Separate free-acid and salt contributions. Verify operating conditions and qualification documents for the proposed use.
Does sample pH alone establish acid strength?
Define total versus free acid, then compare in a representative feed matrix.
Report a delivery or batch issue
Include the order number, lot number from the package, label photos and inspection records for the affected lot. When retesting, check Formic acid assay, Density, Metal impurities.
Request documents for your application
