01 / Applications and trials

Plan a trial for your application

Chemical phosphorus removal

On the same effluent, evaluate soluble phosphorus, sludge volume and residual iron.

Industrial water conditioning

Compare feedwater pH, dissolution behavior and settling after treatment.

02 / Quality and acceptance

Purchase specifications and incoming inspection

Review these properties when selecting and inspecting incoming material. Example figures refer to the cited grade or source. Confirm the offered specification, packaging and lead time in the quotation. U.S. EPA · Nutrient control design manual: phosphorus removal with iron salts ↗

Property Unit Published or agreed specification Test conditions and checks
Ferrous iron % by mass Confirm against the offered grade and purchase specification Express as Fe²⁺. Total iron does not establish ferrous iron content.
Hydration state Chemical formula Confirm against the offered grade and purchase specification Identify the actual commercial form, such as monohydrate or heptahydrate.
Insoluble matter % by mass Confirm against the offered grade and purchase specification Specify dissolution and filtration methods. Apply the residue tolerance of the equipment.

When approving a sample, record the grade, methods, limits and specification revision. On receipt, match the packing lot number to the lot-specific COA and record the measured values and release decision.

03 / Packaging and delivery

From samples to commercial delivery

Packaging and receiving

Mark hydrate and net weight on each bag. Check seals, colour differences and moisture exposure on receipt.

Storage and handling

Record sampling times at factory release and bag opening. Retest ferrous iron and impurities.

Sample and order lead times

State treatment scale, trial quantity and acceptable packaging. Request minimum quantities, preparation times and arrival dates for lab samples, pilot lots and routine replenishment.

04 / Troubleshooting

Questions from the plant

Does surface discolouration mean the entire batch has failed?

Take representative samples from different locations. Measure ferrous iron and total iron separately.

Can a ferric salt replacement dose be based directly on effective iron?

Check how ferrous iron oxidises in this process. Trial actual influent and compare residual iron.

Report a delivery or batch issue

Include the order number, lot number from the package, label photos and inspection records for the affected lot. When retesting, check Ferrous iron, Hydration state, Insoluble matter.
