01 / Applications and trials

Plan a trial for your application

Spreading of waterborne coatings

On the least wettable substrate, inspect edge pullback and craters.

Waterborne ink printing

Fix line speed and substrate treatment. Test printed edge definition and intercoat adhesion.

02 / Quality and acceptance

Purchase specifications and incoming inspection

Use these properties to compare grades within the product family. Example figures refer to the cited grade or source. Confirm the offered specification, packaging and lead time in the quotation. BYK-348 · Polyether-modified siloxane wetting agent ↗

Property Unit Published or agreed specification Test conditions and checks
Dynamic surface tension mN/m Agree for the grade and end use Agree surface age, concentration and water quality.
Contact angle ° Agree for the grade and end use Specify the substrate, droplet volume and reading time.
Intercoat adhesion Project grade Agree for the grade and end use Keep dry film thickness, drying interval and test method constant.
Active matter % by mass BYK-348 third-party technical data: typical value, 100. For diluted products, convert to an active basis before comparing. Request the purchasing limits separately.

When approving a sample, record the grade, methods, limits and specification revision. On receipt, match the packing lot number to the lot-specific COA and record the measured values and release decision.

03 / Packaging and delivery

From samples to commercial delivery

Packaging and receiving

For liquid material state active composition, carrier and net weight. Match the grade at receipt.

Storage and handling

Label separately from defoamers or levelling additives. Specify the substrate used for commercial lot trials.

Sample and order lead times

Compare quotations by active matter, as-supplied net weight and packaging. State destination and receiving facilities and request MOQ, sample dispatch and commercial arrival dates.

04 / Troubleshooting

Questions from the plant

Why are there skips at high print speed despite low static surface tension?

Measure dynamic surface tension at short surface ages and check substrate cleanliness.

Why does higher dosage create more foam?

Compare spreading and foam across a dose series and check the existing defoamer system.

Report a delivery or batch issue

Include the order number, lot number from the package, label photos and inspection records for the affected lot. When retesting, check Dynamic surface tension, Contact angle, Intercoat adhesion.
