Warp sizing and desizing / ENVO-A076

Modified starches for textile warp sizing

Application grade

Select modified warp-sizing starch by fiber type, sizing temperature and subsequent desizing. Viscosity alone cannot determine the grade.

01 / Applications and trials

Plan a trial for your application

Warp sizing

At equal size add-on, compare abrasion resistance, yarn hairiness and warp breaks on the loom.

Compatibility with subsequent desizing

Under the actual desizing process, check residual size, absorbency and subsequent dyeing uniformity.

02 / Quality and acceptance

Purchase specifications and incoming inspection

Review these properties for the intended application grade. Example figures refer to the cited grade or source. Confirm the offered specification, packaging and lead time in the quotation. Ingredion HI-SET 369 · Modified starch for textile sizing ↗

Property Unit Published or agreed specification Test conditions and checks
Sizing bath viscosity mPa·s Agree for the grade and end use Keep solids, gelatinisation history and temperature constant.
Size film properties Tensile results or abrasion cycles Agree for the grade and end use Use the same film thickness and conditioning procedure.
Residual size after desizing % by mass or rating Agree for the grade and end use State the test fabric, method and washing conditions.
Moisture % by mass Ingredion HI-SET 369 published example <13 Compare the intended grades using the same drying method.

When approving a sample, record the grade, methods, limits and specification revision. On receipt, match the packing lot number to the lot-specific COA and record the measured values and release decision.

03 / Packaging and delivery

From samples to commercial delivery

Packaging and receiving

State modification type, gelatinisation method and moisture-barrier liner for powder.

Storage and handling

Check caking and powder colour on receipt. Keep lot-specific test fabric for both sizing and desizing.

Sample and order lead times

State processing equipment, trial batch size and monthly demand. Confirm same-grade samples, first-order MOQ, staged deliveries and arrival date.

04 / Troubleshooting

Questions from the plant

Why is yarn hairiness higher despite equal sizing viscosity?

Compare penetration, size pick-up and film strength. Check yarn twist.

Why does uneven dyeing occur despite a successful initial desizing trial?

Measure residual size and absorbency before and after desizing on the actual warp yarn.

Report a delivery or batch issue

Include the order number, lot number from the package, label photos and inspection records for the affected lot. When retesting, check Sizing bath viscosity, Size film properties, Residual size after desizing.
