Why does hairiness increase after sizing at the same viscosity?
A passing bath viscosity cannot by itself explain weaving performance. Size pickup, penetration and subsequent desizing all influence grade selection.
Use the same warp yarn lot for sizing and desizing
Compare hairiness and weaving performance on one yarn lot. Desize the matched yarns under actual process conditions and measure residual size and absorbency.
Why does uneven dyeing occur despite a successful initial desizing trial?
Measure residual size and absorbency before and after desizing on the actual warp yarn. Warp sizing: At equal size add-on, compare abrasion resistance, yarn hairiness and warp breaks on the loom. Compatibility with subsequent desizing: Under the actual desizing process, check residual size, absorbency and subsequent dyeing uniformity.
Checking Sizing bath viscosity and Size film properties
Sizing bath viscosity (mPa·s): Keep solids, gelatinisation history and temperature constant. Size film properties (Tensile results or abrasion cycles): Use the same film thickness and conditioning procedure. Residual size after desizing (% by mass or rating): State the test fabric, method and washing conditions.
