Thermally Conductive Fillers / ENVO-N021

Spherical alumina

Spherical alumina is used in highly filled thermally conductive composites. Particle size distribution affects packing and flow.

01 / Applications and trials

Plan a trial for your application

Thermal interface potting compounds

Disperse at equal volume fraction. Record pourable working time, mixed viscosity and thermal conductivity after cure.

Thermally conductive pads

At the same pad thickness and compression, compare thermal resistance and electrical insulation. Distinguish powder data from pad performance.

02 / Quality and acceptance

Purchase specifications and incoming inspection

Include the intended grade or current specification in the enquiry. Use the table to compare selection criteria and inspection conditions. The specification agreed by both parties defines the contractual limits. Denka · DAM series spherical alumina: size and applications ↗

Property Unit Published or agreed specification Test conditions and checks
Median particle size D50 µm Denka DAM-45 third-party typical value 42.8 Request coarse-end particle size and its measurement method. Select against the actual filling gap.
Specific surface area m²/g Denka DAM-45 typical value: 0.2. Match adsorption method and pretreatment before comparing results.
Thermal conductivity of the filled material W/(m·K) Confirm the customer’s target for the finished composite. Keep resin, filler volume fraction, specimen density and temperature constant.

When approving a sample, record the grade, methods, limits and specification revision. On receipt, match the packing lot number to the lot-specific COA and record the measured values and release decision.

03 / Packaging and delivery

From samples to commercial delivery

Packaging and receiving

Check surface treatment and moisture-resistant inner bags. Mark coarse and fine grades with size range and lot.

Storage and handling

For thin parts, agree a maximum particle size and foreign-matter check. Retain the full incoming size distribution.

Sample and order lead times

Specify colour code, surface treatment or filler grade and whether a single lot is required. Confirm trial quantity, MOQ, retention across lots and arrival.

04 / Troubleshooting

Questions from the plant

What if increasing filler content makes the compound too viscous?

Compare flow, thermal conductivity and settling in the same resin at defined volume fractions.

Why do potting compounds scratch or block at equal D50?

Check the coarse tail, sieve residue and equipment clearance. Record agglomerates and viscosity before and after filtration.

Report a delivery or batch issue

Include the order number, lot number from the package, label photos and inspection records for the affected lot. When retesting, check Particle size distribution, sphericity, Surface treatment.
