Film-forming resins and curing / ENVO-A043

Styrene-acrylic emulsions

Product family

Select styrene-acrylic emulsions for the pigment and filler system, film formation and scrub resistance. Actual coating performance gives more information than solids alone.

01 / Applications and trials

Plan a trial for your application

Interior latex paint

At equal pigment-to-binder ratio and cure, compare scrub resistance, hiding power and film adhesion.

Primers and waterborne sealers

Compare substrate water absorption, penetration and water resistance after drying.

02 / Quality and acceptance

Purchase specifications and incoming inspection

Use these properties to compare grades within the product family. Example figures refer to the cited grade or source. Confirm the offered specification, packaging and lead time in the quotation. BASF Acronal 296 D · Styrene-acrylic dispersion for construction adhesives ↗

Property Unit Published or agreed specification Test conditions and checks
Solids content % by mass Confirm against the offered grade and purchase specification Identify dilution as supplied and the drying method used.
Minimum film-forming temperature °C Confirm against the offered grade and purchase specification Record the additives and test conditions.
pH Dimensionless Confirm against the offered grade and purchase specification Use the same temperature and concentration for the as-supplied liquid.

When approving a sample, record the grade, methods, limits and specification revision. On receipt, match the packing lot number to the lot-specific COA and record the measured values and release decision.

03 / Packaging and delivery

From samples to commercial delivery

Packaging and receiving

Check drum material, filtration and lot marking. State net weight per container.

Storage and handling

Agree transit temperature range and shelf life with the supplier. Check a receiving sample for skinning and coarse particles.

Sample and order lead times

State processing equipment, trial batch size and monthly demand. Confirm same-grade samples, first-order MOQ, staged deliveries and arrival date.

04 / Troubleshooting

Questions from the plant

Why does a heavily filled paint crack with another styrene-acrylic grade?

Check film formation, pigment-to-binder ratio and application temperature. Retest in the original recipe and at the relevant low temperature.

Should water addition be adjusted from incoming viscosity alone?

First verify solids and test temperature. Confirm application behaviour in the complete formulation.

Report a delivery or batch issue

Include the order number, lot number from the package, label photos and inspection records for the affected lot. When retesting, check Solids content, Minimum film-forming temperature, pH.
