What if two SDS documents describe different compositions under the same trade name?

Changing the metal or its surface treatment changes the meaning of the corrosion result. Apply a copper-alloy coupon result only to equipment of the corresponding material.

Pair each test coupon with an untreated control

Select coupons matching the equipment alloy and surface condition. Use an untreated blank, fixed water quality, exposure time and area. Record both appearance and mass change per unit area.

Can coupon results be applied to every metal?

Verify with the actual copper alloy and site water. Results from a different metal do not establish protection. Cooling water in copper-alloy systems: Use the actual alloy coupons, water quality and operating temperature to compare corrosion. Post-cleaning metal protection: Check surface cleanliness, adhesion in the following operation and effects of residual film.

Checking BTA assay and Melting range

BTA assay (% by mass): Apply to free BTA. Sodium salt assay values require a separate basis. Melting range (°C): Compare only the corresponding solid grade and specify the test procedure. Dissolution behavior (Observation or % insolubles): Test in the intended medium at the intended temperature and concentration.
