Trial design and interpretation

Record surfactant active matter separately from sodium chloride already present in each product. Make equal-active additions, correct for the salt difference and plot viscosity. Equal-solids substitution can obscure the difference.

Recording Surfactant active content

Surfactant active content (% by mass): BASF Dehyton PK 45/MB: nominal value, 45. Distinguish the specific grade from other CAPB liquids. Agree methods for active matter, solids and salt when approving samples. Sodium chloride: use the agreed method. Record both added salt and salt introduced with raw materials. Compare at equal total salt in the finished formula.

Why do CAPB grades with similar solids respond differently to added salt?

Distinguish active matter from total solids, including inorganic salts. Plot salt curves at the same surfactant ratio. Foam stabilization in wash products: At the same anionic surfactant, water and active ratio, compare foaming, foam stability and rheology.

What to record

  • Surfactant active content
  • Sodium chloride already present
  • Added salt
  • Viscosity under specified conditions
