Set up the comparison
Compare an unopened retained sample with the working material. Record seal condition, opening time and exposure during sampling. Report total iron and ferrous iron separately.
Measurements to record
Ferrous and total iron (mg/g). Record sampling, dissolution and analysis times to aid interpretation of iron speciation. Moisture (% by mass). Specify the water test, sampling and sealing conditions. Interpret water content and loss on drying separately. Record the sample ID and method revision for repeat testing.
Interpreting the results
Review ferrous fraction, oxygen exposure and acidity together. Retain the original powder and the finished-product sample for comparison.
