Set up the comparison

Record hydrate form, assay basis and actual mass weighed. Match sugar solids first, then compare dissolution and finished-product performance.

Measurements to record

Hydration state (Identification result). Verify the reporting basis for chemical form, free water and principal component separately. Principal component assay (% by mass). Identify the analyte, dry or as-received basis and method. Do not substitute a theoretical conversion for an incoming release result. Record the sample ID and method revision for repeat testing.

Interpreting the results

Different moisture results do not establish different purity. Check the hydrate and water test method before comparing assay, texture or moisture migration during storage.

What to record

  • Hydrate form
  • Dry-basis assay
  • Sugar solids
  • Dissolution time
  • Finished-product comparison
