Does greater purity guarantee greater cure activity?

Zinc oxide purity, surface area and dispersion describe different factors. A higher assay alone does not establish a faster cure.

Compare active zinc oxide in the same cure system

Use the same base rubber and other cure ingredients. Record scorch, cure curves and finished-part performance, then compare dosage among grades that meet the target.

Can active zinc oxide replace conventional zinc oxide weight for weight?

Start with effective zinc and establish a usable range through rubber-compound trials. Vulcanization activation: Hold fatty acid and accelerator system fixed. Compare cure rate, scorch and mechanical properties. Light-colored rubber compounds: Compare dispersion, color and appearance after aging.

Checking Zinc oxide assay and Specific surface area

Zinc oxide assay (% by mass): Specify whether the result is expressed as ZnO or elemental Zn. Specific surface area (m²/g): Specify the method, sample pretreatment and activity grade. Lead and other metallic impurities (mg/kg): Agree limits for individual elements for the intended application.

What to record

  • Zinc oxide assay
  • Specific surface area
  • Actual dosage
  • Scorch
  • Cure result
