Coagulation and flocculation / ENVO-L2265

Polyaluminium Chloride (PAC)

CAS 1327-41-9

Convert powder and liquid quotations to the same alumina basis. Use the same raw water in jar tests to compare the actual cost of meeting the target turbidity.

Procurement briefENVO Published product information
Form and application
ENVO's catalogue lists yellow powdered PAC. Specify the raw water source and clarification target.
Key specifications
One published powder grade lists ≥29% alumina. Compare basicity and insolubles as well.
Packaging and receipt
The published example is a 25 kg bag. Specify the moisture barrier and pallet requirements.
Before requesting a sample
Use the same raw water for each jar test. Record turbidity before and after treatment, pH and settling time.

01 / Applications and trials

Plan a trial for your application

Powdered PAC for industrial water

Check raw water pH, alkalinity, turbidity and temperature. Compare powder dissolution, settling time and treated-water turbidity.

Liquid PAC metering evaluation

Provide tank, piping and metering pump details. Confirm liquid grade availability, active concentration and density before calculating volumetric pump delivery.

Drinking-water end-use review

Identify the project market and water plant acceptance criteria. Check intended-use documents, limited impurities and residual aluminum after treatment.

02 / Quality and acceptance

Purchase specifications and incoming inspection

The ENVO data apply to yellow solid powder. A liquid quotation should include concentration, density, measurement temperature and a COA for the offered grade. ENVO PAC · Yellow PAC powder specifications and packaging ↗

Property Unit Published or agreed specification Test conditions and checks
Alumina (Al₂O₃) Mass fraction ≥ 29% Ask whether the COA uses an as-supplied or dry basis. Convert to the same basis before comparing prices per tonne.
Basicity % 40.0–90.0 Check the offered grade’s method and range. Use site water to screen grades within a broad catalogue range.
Insoluble matter Mass fraction ≤ 0.6% Match dissolution, filtration and weighing procedures, and check the preparation tank for visible residue.
pH Dimensionless 3.5–5.0 The published value is for a 1% aqueous solution. Do not compare it directly with the pH of undiluted product.

When approving a sample, record the grade, methods, limits and specification revision. On receipt, match the packing lot number to the lot-specific COA and record the measured values and release decision.

03 / Packaging and delivery

From samples to commercial delivery

Solid and liquid packaging

Published powder packaging is a 25 kg plastic inner bag in a woven polypropylene outer bag. For liquid orders confirm container material, connections, unloading equipment and return arrangements.

Receiving and storage

Inspect the outer bag, liner and moisture-related caking. The published powder sheet lists 24 months of shelf life; agree storage conditions in the contract. For liquids verify lot, concentration and receiving tank capacity.

Minimum order and delivery

Ask separately for minimum quantities for samples, full pallets of powder and liquid shipments. Clarify net weight, dispatch point, price and freight basis, lead-time start, dispatch date and arrival at the plant.

04 / Troubleshooting

Questions from the plant

How can we compare quotations for two concentrations?

For delivered tonne prices and as-received assays, cost per tonne of Al₂O₃ equals product price per tonne divided by the Al₂O₃ mass fraction. Then compare chemical cost per tonne of water at the same treatment target.

Why do large flocs in a jar test fail to predict stable plant effluent?

Run a dose series at the same raw water, temperature, mixing and settling times. Record turbidity, pH and residual aluminium, then check plant mixing, dosing accuracy and filtration.
