Trial design and interpretation

Check the specification, SDS and quotation for acid or salt form, active basis and pH. If a name covers different forms, ask the supplier to explain the conversion and verify compatibility in the actual water.

Recording Active acid

Active acid: use the agreed method. Report DTPMPA-equivalent content separately from solids and check the analytical basis. Iron (mg/kg): Set the upper limit for the intended application. Verify the as-received result as Fe and the quantification limit.

Can DTPMP and its sodium salt be substituted at equal concentration?

Confirm neutralisation state, active-acid equivalent, sodium contribution and pH. Verify compatibility in the original formulation. High-hardness recirculating water: At actual calcium and alkalinity, compare scale inhibition. Record turbidity and deposition endpoints.

What to record

  • Acid or salt identity
  • Active equivalent
  • Solution pH
  • Compatibility in sample water
