Trial design and interpretation
Weigh light and dense soda ash in the same measuring vessel. Divide mass by volume for loose bulk density and measure the actual mass delivered at the selected feed speed. Keeping the old volumetric setting can conceal a dosing difference.
Recording Bulk density
Bulk density: use the agreed method. Specify loose or tapped bulk density. Record moisture and particle condition. Chloride: use the agreed method. State whether the result is expressed as Cl or NaCl.
Does a volumetric feeder need recalibration when switching from light to dense soda ash?
Measure loose bulk density and actual delivered mass. Check the mass of soda ash fed over the same interval. Glass batching: Use the actual silo and batching system to compare dense grades for bulk density, dust and mixing uniformity.
What to record
- Vessel volume
- Net mass
- Loose bulk density
- Feed rate by mass
