Weatherability and impact modification / ENVO-A040

Chlorinated polyethylene impact modifiers

Application grade

Distinguish impact-modifier CPE from other chlorinated polyethylene grades. Evaluate low-temperature impact together with PVC processing.

01 / Applications and trials

Plan a trial for your application

Rigid PVC profiles

In the same base formulation, compare low-temperature notched impact, fusion and appearance.

Impact modification of extruded pipes and fittings

Record extrusion pressure and dimensional stability, and perform the target impact test.

02 / Quality and acceptance

Purchase specifications and incoming inspection

Review these properties for the intended application grade. Example figures refer to the cited grade or source. Confirm the offered specification, packaging and lead time in the quotation. Resonac ELASLEN CX · Chlorinated polyethylene grades ↗

Property Unit Published or agreed specification Test conditions and checks
Chlorine content % by mass Confirm against the offered grade and purchase specification Report on an as-received basis for the corresponding grade.
Volatiles % by mass Confirm against the offered grade and purchase specification Use the same drying temperature and time.
Impact strength retention kJ/m² or method-specific Confirm against the offered grade and purchase specification Keep formulation, specimen thickness, notch and test temperature constant.

When approving a sample, record the grade, methods, limits and specification revision. On receipt, match the packing lot number to the lot-specific COA and record the measured values and release decision.

03 / Packaging and delivery

From samples to commercial delivery

Packaging and receiving

For powder or granules, specify modification purpose, bulk density and net weight. Do not substitute cable-grade data.

Storage and handling

Check lot and fusion curve. Record moisture exposure and agglomeration separately.

Sample and order lead times

State the finished part, machine trial quantity and routine order size. Match trial and commercial grades and agree MOQ, load unit, lead-time start and arrival.

04 / Troubleshooting

Questions from the plant

Does higher chlorine content necessarily improve impact resistance?

Compare impact, fusion and other required properties in the plant formulation at its relevant low temperature.

Can CPE replace ACR at equal addition?

Distinguish impact modification from processing assistance, then validate the part and process separately.

Report a delivery or batch issue

Include the order number, lot number from the package, label photos and inspection records for the affected lot. When retesting, check Chlorine content, Volatiles, Impact strength retention.
